Writing for the Ear

During the 2008 presidential campaign, I wrote and gave several speeches in support of Barack Obama at the request of his Florida Campaign for Change. At the grand opening of the campaign's Orlando headquarters, I addressed about 400 listeners. I also spoke at events featuring prominent Obama supporters, including Ambassador Dennis Ross, an expert on the Mideast, and Lester Crane, one of America's most generous philanthropists.

Corporate clients have engaged me to write speeches for executives to deliver to both internal audiences and external audiences. For instance, during Sodexho's takeover of Marriot Management Services, I wrote many speeches for high level Marriott executives to deliver to audiences including jittery, uncertain employees and Wall Street investors. I continued to do communications work for Sodexho.

I began writing speeches for other people while serving as a Foreign Service Officer at the US embassy in Sweden. There I wrote three speeches for then US Vice President George Herbert Walker Bush, which he delivered on a state visit to Stockholm.
My work with speeches, presentations and podcasts

An ardent Toastmaster, I often address civic and business audiences in Orlando. In 2007, I won the Communicator's Cup Award for outstanding achievement from Winter Park Toastmasters, the largest such club in the South.

My speeches cover topics that range from the informative to the humorous and inspirational. Public speaking has become one of my favorite professional activities.  I address civic and business groups, always striving to entertain while presenting useful ideas.

For the American Society for Clinical Oncology (ASCO), I've been writing podcasts that are available on ASCO's People Living with Cancer (www.plwc.org) website. They cover diverse subjects for cancer patients, survivors and their families.

Here are links to a few of these podcasts. I wrote them; other people read them:

I also provide coaching on speeches and presentations. Two recent clients include Irma Jennings, a holistic health counselor (www.nutritionwithirma.com), and therapist Unju Chung-Canine of The Counseling Group (www.thecounselinggroup.net/aboutus.html).
